Hiding from the Public : Week of 3.14

This week when speaking about the government of Brazil and the story of Eva Peron, there is much that is hid from the general public in order to keep the facade of a united front. When the President of Brazil wanted to keep his downfall a secret he allowed for all of the issues to build up and when he commuted suicide, he wrote it all out to make home seem like a God like figure. He said he was helping the situation by sacrificing himself and his blood to Brazils cause. I thought of this when reading about Evita and the way that her and her husband presented themselves. They hid from the public her sickness and hardships until the day she died, and her husband even hid her cancer from her to keep up his political career. Both of these political figures led the public to believe something that was not true. I think everyone does this however as it is pretty normal to keep things that happened behind closed doors private.

  1. Thank you, Illy, for the blog. I appreciate what you wrote about how Vargas and Peron but was left wanting to read more about what you meant by both wanting the public to believe something that wasn't true. What was not true that was kept from the public and why?
