Comparison of Two Women : Week of 4.4

With the discussion of this week about Menchu, the comparison to Eva Peron made an appearance. These two women are both very influential and incite change in the societies in which they are in. Eva Peron was a woman who captivated her follower’s attention in life and death. She had started from a lower class family and had overcome adversity in her life through entertainment. She rose through the ranks and when she became first lady her actions were much more concrete and able to be followed through. Then there is a comparison to Rigoberta Menchu. Being a lower class indigenous women, she face much adversity in her life. Her family faced famine, hard labor and injustice all her life. The culture that she was raised is very unique and they appreciated what they were given. She incited change in her community as she wrote about the injustices that he had to overcome, but her experience was much different than Evita’s. While Evita also had people who imposed her changes she still was respected by many, and Menchu was placed in exile. Menchu had many of the same wants as Evita, but because of her race and social standing, she has not received the same respect. The two differing factors of these women's lives had much impact on the regard that they received, and it should not have.
