Immortal Nature : Week of 1.24
This weeks conversation really brought to mind the mortality of life for me. Time and time again nature has proven to mankind that it does not need the assistance from us. In places ruined by the touch of man, nature has replenished its self and can back stronger than ever, for example Chernobyl. Even in natural landmarks like Machu Pichu, nature over the years had reclaimed its place, only to be reorganized by us. Nature crosses over and over again the fine line of being mortal, yet immortal.
Every winter the air gets colder and the flowers begin to wither, bringing upon the mortality of nature. Yet in the spring the earth is replenished and blossoming in new life. However how old is the plant that you see blossoming in the springtime? The flowers that wither and die in the winter still have roots teeming with life below the surface, just waiting to break through. These aspects of nature allow for the beauty of it to keep in thriving. We must cherish the wild and untamed nature that lies before us, for even when we are long gone and dead, our bodies will just feed the immortal earth.
Thank you, Illy, for this beautiful post. What you say reminds me of something I read somewhere about how global warming might in the end cause the disappearance of humankind but that of the planet for the very reason that you point out: nature's ability to restore itself.
