Differing Perspectives : Week of 9.13

I think I can speak for the class, when I say that we all came into this class at least a tiny bit unprepared. Unprepared for the topics that would be discussed and unprepared for the conversations that would open up our minds and thinking to a whole new world. When I came into class I never thought that I would be learning that I have "read" objects my entire life, let alone be able to hone in on that skill to widen my learning. I truly have a blast when we read the objects of the past and listen to everyone's differing ideas. When we learn a new fact it is easy to set our minds to make our opinions' based on the few facts we truly know. Even when we look into the past there is so much that was left unsaid. When groups mentioned that their perspective of the Codex Mendoza was that the Europeans did not have enough knowledge of the Natives, it was a differing opinion of my own, however it does not mean it was wrong. There is a reason that people are critical thinkers and there is a reason that everyone has differing perspectives on varying topics. This reason is to make everyday a chance to broaden your horizons' and learn something that you didn't think of yesterday.

  1. Thank you, Illy, for the post. I like how you summarized what you have learned in the class about understanding the past and how we are often quick to make assumptions. A different opinion from somebody can be a good thing and help us see things from a new perspective.
